April 6^th, 2016

The Meeting was called to order by President Terry Genners at 6:39pm.

In attendance were:  Officers – Terry Genners, Bob Eick, Amy Snyder, Dawn Knoebel;  Parents – Sherry Humphrey, Linda Hoy, Jennifer Daubert, JudyLynn Weaver, and Ginger Peoples.

Vice President’s report:  Field Day will be held May 26^th, with a raindate of May 27^th.  Need 10-12 volunteers with clearances.

Treasurer’s report:  Gertrude Hawk - $8,829.38.  Still need field trip and bus prices.  There was a motion to approve from Linda Hoy and a second from Jen Daubert.

Secretary’s report:  The March meeting minutes were reviewed.  There was a motion to approve from Sherry Humphrey and a second from Linda Hoy.

Principal’s report:  Mr. Fetterman was not in attendance.

March 2, 2016

The Meeting was called to order by President Terry Genners at 6:31pm.

Vice President’s report:  Bob Eick reminded everybody that we need chaperones with clearances for the upcoming field trips.  Still need dates and pricing.

Principal’s report:  Mr. Fetterman was pleased with the great turnout for the meeting and movie night, but the sound system needs work.  He also reminded us that PSSA’s will be April 11^th - 15^th.

Old Business

Family Movie Night – Thank you to all volunteers and everybody that attended the event.  There is debate whether to purchase an individual or annual license.  One time showing is $172.00, and an annual license is $498.00.

Gertrude Hawk delivery is Tuesday, March 8^th at 11:00am.  Looking for volunteers to sort and distribute candy until 7:00pm.

February 3, 2016

The Meeting was called to order by President Terry Genners at 6:35pm.

January Minutes

HART MINUTES

January 6, 2016

The meeting was called to order by President Terry Genners at 6:35pm.

Principal’s report.  Mr. Fetterman had several items to discuss.  Box Top funds were used for new Roar T-shirts at $1,000; and a Box of Light class payment of $650.  He is also thinking of purchasing new die cut machines, and building a new handicap access to the playground.

Old Business

Script card fundraiser update:  total is $2,536.88.

New Business & Upcoming Events

Next Box Top submission is March 1^st.

Spring Fundraiser – Gertrude Hawk orders due February 19^th, delivery March 7^th.

Spring Picture day February 18^th – volunteers needed

Gallagher Scholarship fundraiser – 80’s Night on February 13^th at the Elysburg Fire hall, HART will be donating the Disney Tickets.

Vacant positions this year for President and Secretary.  Nominations will be needed for April elections.

Class field trips were discussed.  Mr. Fetterman needs to find out costs, destinations and dates.

HART will not be accepting any teacher requests for reimbursements.  It might be put in the budget for next year.

Family Movie Night planned for February 26^th.  Need to get license, movie ideas (rated PG), snacks (popcorn & water).

Teacher Appreciation Day is Tuesday, May 3^rd.  Suggestions were made to have a breakfast and lunch catered.

Our next meeting will be February 3, 2016 @ 6:30pm in the Library.

The meeting was called to order by President Terry Genners at 6:30pm.

October Minutes

HART MINUTES

October 7, 2015

The October meeting of the Hartman Alliance for Residents and Teachers was called to order at 6:35 p.m. by President Terry Genners in the elementary school library.

In attendance were officers Terry Genners, Bob Eick, and Amy Snyder; teacher rep Tia Brown; and parents Melanie Buhay, Jen Dunkelberger, Sue Griscavage, Bobbi Hancock, Linda Hoy, Sarah Knoebel, Andrea Koch, Christi Moncavage, Amanda Noblit, Kim Pesarchick, Erica Schaeffer, Vanessa Stine, Judy Lynn Weaver, and Allison Wetzel.  (Principal John Fetterman arrived later.)

With the absence of Dawn Knoebel, there was no Secretary’s Report or September minutes; they’ll be reviewed next month.  Judy Lynn agreed to take tonight’s minutes.

Vice President Bob reported that Fire Prevention Day activities today went great.  He noted a problem regarding cookies for Grandparents Day having to do with Box Tops monies.  Bob also encouraged parents to submit their Clearances as soon as possible, as it is taking the school district more time than expected to process everyone’s paperwork.  Details are available on the school’s website.  We need more volunteers with Clearances in order to conduct HART events.

Treasurer Amy confirmed that HART’s accounts have been transferred to First Columbia Bank.  She reported there was no real activity in the class accounts over the past month.  Our General Account balance as of Sept. 30 is $18,597.67, and class funds total $6,908.30.  An extra $50 designated for class funds was divided among 1st-4th grades, for the following totals:

Kindergarten = $110.01

1^st Grade = $738.53

2^nd Grade = $2,585.55

3^rd Grade = $2,952.31

4^th Grade = $521.90

Mrs. Connie Lupold, 5th grade science teacher, spoke about the new Farm to School initiative to promote healthy eating.  For its “Fresh Food of the Month” campaign, the community Wellness Committee selects a food to be served to students and plans its local farm source.  The objective is to get kids to try local foods at school, and inspire them to request those foods at home, as well as encourage parents to then purchase the product locally.  The committee wants to target elementary students.  Mrs. Lupold stated that the committee’s shortcoming is manpower to prepare the snacks.  She also requested help in identifying local farms and gardens that could supply foods, and/or contacts with farmers and growers who’d do a demonstration or presentation on their product.  In addition, she said the district has begun a gardening program which has received a Seed Change grant.

The Harvest Festival & Hartman Hustle will be Friday, Oct. 30.  The Festival committee met to hash out activities.  A bounce house was reserved for $400.  Someone is needed to lead the canned goods collection and distribution.  A craft idea is needed.  Allison got the new Elysburg Burger King to donate cups, drinks, and some coupons.  Each class will be given a pumpkin to decorate in a different book character theme.  The committee will meet Oct. 19 in the LGA.  They’re trying to get high school students to assist with the festival due to the insufficient number of parents with Clearances.

The Facilities Request form was submitted.  Hustle money and shirt orders are still being received.  The T-shirts will be ordered via teacher Dave Fegley with Keegan Tees.  Turkey Hill is donating water, but water cups are needed; there may be enough in the HART Room.  The top fundraisers win lunch from Brewsers; Bobbi offered to pick up their food.

Yankee Candle info was sent home today for the fundraiser held Oct. 1-22; popcorn is also offered this year.  Terry said the officers are working on the SCRIP card fundraiser for the holidays.  We’ve secured Gertrude Hawk for spring/Easter.  Regarding a Skatetown fundraiser, Terry said the Bloomsburg facility offers a $10 card for two activities (e.g. skating, laser tag), for which HART would keep $4 profit.  No date was selected yet.

Volunteers

Making the decision to volunteer your time and talents can enhance the educational experience of the students of the Southern Columbia Area School District. If you have an interest in the District’s educational programs, an enjoyment in helping students, and a sincere belief that by volunteering, a contribution will be made to the learning process, you have what is takes to be a volunteer! If you are interested in volunteering in the Southern Columbia Area Schools, please contact the building Principal of the school you wish to serve to begin the application process.

The following volunteer guidelines will be in effect beginning with the 2015-2016, school year:

1. The first step to volunteering is to contact the Principal of the building where you wish to serve. Explain what services you would like to offer. Based on what you relay, the Principal will determine whether you should be classifed as a volunteer or as a visitor. 

 

A Volunteer includes but is not necessarily limited to:  an individual who serves as a volunteer sport coach or otherwise assists and has contact with children in connection with production or conduct of a play, concert, or other curricular, co-curricular, or extracurricular activity;  an individual who serves as a daily, weekly, or other periodic scheduled classroom assistant;  an individual who serves as a school sponsored event chaperone;  or an individual who in connection with a school sponsored activity has contact, unsupervised by a school employee, with a child with respect to whom the individual is not the parent, close relative, or guardian of the child.

 

A volunteer is more than a visitor, and normally involves an individual working directly with, having responsibility for, and having repeated interaction with one or more students.

 

A visitor is an individual whose actions do not rise to the level of a volunteer. As examples, a visitor includes, but is not necessarily limited to: a parent, close relative, or guardian who visits a classroom, auditorium, other school common areas, or private meeting area to make a delivery to, meet with, or share a celebration time with, a student who is the individual’s child or other close relative or for whom the individual is the guardian; an individual who attends a sports event or other extracurricular/co-curricular activity; or an individual who is a career day or other similar speaker or participant visiting to share information with students under the supervision of a school employee.

 

2. Prior to the start of volunteer service, all persons deemed a volunteer must complete a Volunteer Application which  provides basic demographic information about the individual.

 

3, The Principal will review the application and then interview the volunteer. If the prospective volunteer is approved by the Principal, he/she must agree to submit  the following clearances which must be dated no more than one year prior to the volunteer application date:

 

• Act 34 Clearance (State Police)- PA State Police Criminal History Report
• Act 154 Clearance (Child Abuse)  (click on create account)- PA Department of Human Services Child Abuse Report 
• Volunteers who have lived in Pennsylvania less than 10 years must also secure Act 114 Clearance (Fingerprinting) clearances. 
• Volunteers who have lived in Pennsylvania for 10 years or longer will complete a Volunteer Affirmation form and do not need Act 114 clearances.

 

4. All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Acknowledgment and State of Confidentiality form

 

5.  Volunteers who will be, or are anticipated to be, in direct contact with students 10 or more hours/week, must submit the results of a TB Test which contains documentation from an examining physician indicating the volunteer is free from active TB disease. 

 

 

6.  The principal or designee is responsible for collecting all documentation and verifying the legitimacy of the clearances before forwarding it to the District Office. All of the aformentioned forms and clearances will be held by the Principal until all are received.  Once this occurs, the Principal will forward the complete packet of documents to the District Office.

 

7. All volunteers who plan to provide service over an aggregate period of time exceeding four (4) weeks throughout the school year, and/or who provide direct services to students, must be approved by the Board prior to providing services to the District.

 

 

8. The District Office will maintain a list of active volunteers and will be responsible for monitoring each volunteer’s compliance with the three-year background check update requirements. Volunteers are required to provide updated clearances every three years so that background check reports on file are never older than three years.

 

9.  The principal will be responsible for ensuring all volunteers are provided an orientation session associated with their assignments. The actual orientation can be led by the principal or principal’s designee.  

 

10.  Requests to serve as a volunteer must be approved annually by the principal.

 

11. The volunteer cannot serve in a building or area of responsibility other than that to which he/she has been approved for service.

Basket Raffle that was held on Family & Community Night made a profit of $553.00.  Thank you to all that donated.
WBRE WeatherBug camera will be installed on the Middle School facing the Elementary School tomorrow, May 7th.

Box Tops update:  November $1,574.50.  Last check received was $2,995.70.  December $839.00.  Next contest will be in February.
ReadnQuiz:  Milk & Cookie party and award cart for anybody with at least 40 points will be soon.  Exact date was not known.

Spring Fundraiser:  Wolfgang Candy - Sales start January 30th, Orders Due February 17th, Delivery March 25th.  Will be individually packed with students names.

Basket Raffle has been postponed until the Fall, maybe during Parent/Teacher Conferences.  Looking for volunteers to form a committee.  We have 4 Disney Hopper Passes that we received through a Cyber Grant.  And considering having a Bake Sale/Refreshments.  Michelle Conway received a donation of 1,000 tickets from National Ticket Company.

A spring bus trip to Baltimore is being considered for an additional fundraiser.

Sue Griscavage and Linda Hoy will resign their Officer positions at the end of the school year.  Vice President and Treasurer positions will be up for election at Family and Community Night.

Teacher Appreciation week is coming up in May.  Looking for volunteers to form a committee.  We provide lunch for the teachers everyday, and raffle off small donated items/gift cards.

Thank you to Sherry Humphrey and Dawn Knoebel for making treat bags for the teachers at Christmas.

A Buddy Bench was donated by Dan Hauer and Brewser's SportsGrille.  A dedication ceremony will be in the spring.

Secretary's report deferred till next month in December as Dawn Knoebel, new secretary and Amy Snyder, past secretary not available this meeting.

Principal report - Thank you to all who assisted with the Hartman Hustle and fall harvest festival. Everything went well.  Will continue to work schedules to make best use of time for all involved.

Sue reported Yankee Candle fundraiser-online ordering can happen till January 2015.  Sold $25,000 in merchandise.  Profit is $10,492.14 which will cover the cost of end of year picnic at Knoebels. Info will be sent home with pickup dates and times.

Box top collections recently yielded $1,580 per Sherry Humphrey.  Class awards go to Rodriguez, Merook, Rhodes, Hornberger, and Horne - popcorn parties to be scheduled.

Hartman Hustle brought in $6,313.45 before deducting the cost of t-shirts.  Top classes for raising money are Rhodes, Crisp, Gessner, Meyer, Springer, and Pfirman.  No class had 100% participation.

Read-n-quiz replaces AR cost $400.  Work in progress as with any new program.

Old Business.  Grandparent’s day went well.  Dawn asked why the date isn’t closer to Grandparents Day.

New Business.   We are in need of someone to take over the Campbell soup labels.

Fall picture day is coming up and there is a sign up sheet for anyone who would like to volunteer.

Fire prevention day is 10/9.  Lynn Madden is chairing the event.  Kim said she can get hoagies from Ponduce again.  Jennifer Daubert said she would make muffins for the event. Tera Schauer said she would donate chips and Michelle Conway is donating water.

Hartman Hustle is coming up on 10/31.  Angela gave a brief overview of the event.  They will be doing T-shirts this year for everyone that raises $25.  Discussion of rewards was next.  They have received several donations for the event already.

It was brought up that some of the Yankee Candle forms that went home where wrong.  New ones were printed and send home. 

Southern Clothing fundraiser.  Terry mentioned selling Tiger wear, it was brought up that the wear had to be specific to GC Hartman to get the profit. 

Scrip Cards.  We will have a list for next meeting, anything that didn’t receive 5 for last year will be dropped from the list for this year. 

A Chinese auction is in the begging process of being planned for next year.  We have already received 4 passes for Disney donated. 

Sue gave a brief overview of festival for parents that are new.  The schedule will run the same as last year.

The meeting started off by everyone introducing themselves.

There was no Vice President report due to Sue Griscavage was not in attendance yet.

Terry thanked everyone for their help during these first few weeks with lunch duty.  Bob said it was going well.

Next Linda gave the Treasures report.  1st motion to approve Sherry Humphrey and 2^nd Angela Charnosky.

Next everyone reviewed the budget.  Michelle asked about AR costs in budget due to the fact that it wasn’t going to take place this year.  1^st motion to approve Bob Eick and 2^nd Michelle Conway.

Angela Charnosky asked about ROAR t-shirts.  No one had answer and Mr. Fetterman wasn’t in attendance.

New Business

Lisa Bernhard will be taking over AR, but it’s on hold at the moment.

We need someone to take over Campbell labels and Tyson.  Also for Box Tops, Sherry Humphrey said she would take over the Box Tops.

Sherry mentioned there is $750. leftover money from pennies.  Sherry mentioned using the money to purchase balls for the classrooms to use at recess or do we leave it for a later time.

Michelle asked about the 5^th grade to come over and play on the new playground.  It will be up to the Principal if that can happen.  Sherry also mention for everyone to go to Mondays SMART meeting.

A picture for the t-shirts for the Hustle will be chosen at October meeting.

Yankee candle is going to go out as early as October 1^st

Jen Delsite said she would take over the Script card fundraiser.

Hart officer Secretary Vacancy, Amy Snyder term was over at the end of last school year and she will not be continuing for 2014-15 school year. 

Melanie Buhay discussed Girls on the Run.  At least 8 girls are needed, it’s 10-12 weeks, 2 times a week, cost is $95, and coaches are needed.  Watch for information to be coming home for a Spring Girls on the run.

Sherry had a couple of suggestions for upcoming fundraisers.  Bus to the winery, NY on your own, King of Prussia mall, Christmas village, or Inner Harbor.  1 bus will bring in a profit of about $1000-1200.  It was discussed to work on a bus trip for the spring and to focus on filling 2 buses.  Judy asked about possible local wineries.

Dawn asked about if we have heard anything on the Hartman Helpers, Sue said she would check with Mr. Fetterman.

At October’s meeting we will be picking homeroom parents.
