The meeting started with Vice President Sue Griscavage asking if everyone in attendance that wanted to sign up for homeroom parent did so already.  She also mentioned that there are some homerooms without any parent volunteers.

Next Linda asked everyone to review the Treasures report.  First motion to Approve was Jen Dunkelberger and a 2nd by Lynn Madden.

Next was review of Secretary Minutes for September.  A correction is need with the month in the first section of the minutes from October to September.  Also Judy Ann Weaver to Judy Lynn Weaver.  First motion from Sherry Humphrey and a 2nd from Christi Moncavage.

President Terry Genners reviewed old business.  She thanked everyone for their help with grandparent’s day.  Sue gave some input as to how grandparent’s day went.  She said Regina from the cafeteria had everything ready.  She had everything set up and decorated and already had food ready.  She was amazing.  Sue also mentioned that Mr. Shirvinski sponsored this event from the activities account.

Next Sherry gave an update for the pennies committee and box tops to this point.  She started by saying that the kids did a great job with the start of the box top kick off and definitely earned a PJ day and she proposed October 18th.  She also asked that if everyone could remember to not paste the box top bonuses on the regular sheets.  If they could please keep those separate.  Also reminded everyone that you can only paste on one side.  Also one parent sent in a letter of concern with the new guidelines set for collection.  Sue suggested using old homework sheets to return box tops.   Sherry next spoke about upcoming fundraisers for pennies committee.  There will be a Brewser’s night and a trip to NY City.  The bake sale raised $130.19 and the craft fair raised $285.

Picture Day is set for October 16.

Fire Safety Day for kindergarten, first and third grades is set for October 9.  Breakfast is set for 8:15-9.  HART supplies breakfast and lunch.

Tie day is October 15.

Act 80 Day, October 14, there is no school.

Crayon Day is set for October 22, wear your favorite color.

Hartman Hustle is October 25 along with the Harvest Festival.  The Harvest Festival is making progress for the event.  Sue gave us some information. There will be a craft and bounce houses.  We will be doing the food drive as in past years.  Thus far there are 17 games to be played on the playground.  Next meeting will be October 16th at 6.  We do need as many volunteers as possible with both the festival and hustle going on.  There will also be the Relay recess.  There will not be a t-shirt this year.

Linda also mentioned that the BINGO that was going to be planned for the fall is going to be postponed.  Linda also gave some information on the Hartman Hustle.  The top three classes will earn prizes, such as ice cream party, pizza party and kickball with possibly Mr. Deeter.  Individual prizes such as gift cards and whatever Linda would get donated.
Jen Dunkelberger raised the question as to whether we thought the donations would be lower due to not having a minimum amount to get prize.  So everyone discussed putting a minimum amount of $10 to be eligible for prizes.  Someone suggested Knoebel tickets as a possible prize and Dawn Knoebel said she could look into it.  Angela Charnosky asked when the drawing would be held, Linda mentioned not that day and a date was set for November 1.  There was some concern as to gift card amount and donation minimum.  Linda mentioned that we have $200 to spend.  Next Linda explained to the newer parents what the hustle is and how it works.   Linda will work on donations and give an update at harvest festival meeting.

Sue asked if anyone else was interested in the Hartman helping hands volunteers as the meeting is coming up soon.  Bob expressed his concern with all that needs to be done to volunteer.

Fall book fair will be held October 28-November 1.

Next Terry read the by laws in regards to the homeroom parent, since they will be picked at the end of the meeting.

Linda asked if everyone was in agreement for Gertrude Hawk for spring.  She also mentioned script cards instead of Sheetz since price is going up and we aren’t making as much.   Jen Dunkelberger suggested doing Gertrude Hawk with script cards.

Linda and Sue mentioned that all money that is coming in from the usual HART donation is going directly to that student’s class funds instead of HART.

Sherry added that the Target contest that was going on ended and we got $342.

Next was the Vice Presidents report. Sue Griscavage mentioned that forms for Hartman Helper and Homeroom Parents would be coming home soon.

Treasurer Linda Hoy was next.  Review of budget and approval.  A 1st motion from Angela Charnosky and a 2nd from Michelle Conway.

Secretary’s report was next.  Amy Snyder just asked for a review and approval of May minutes.  A 1st motion from Dawn Knoebel and a second from Karen Wojtowicz.

Mr. Shirvinski thanked everyone for all their work to make the opening of the school year  run smoothly.  He also asked for some feedback from kindergarten orientation.  Jen Dunkleberger gave some feedback along with Michele Williams.  He then discussed the Hartman Helpers program, which is a long term volunteer program. He said there are lots of places that could use helpers such as library or art. Also the volunteer needs to have their clearances along with TB Test.  Information would be coming home shortly.   Next Mr. Shirvinski went over his Activities account and what funds it.  School pictures were $1,000, Giant rewards program $1,255.07, Box tops $2,719.  This account pays for things like Grandparents Day and PSSA Breakfast along with many others.  Next he announced that “Pennies for our Playground” is getting $5,000 from this account toward their total and all incoming box top money was going to go to that fund.  Sherry mentioned that with this contribution, pennies committee is at a total of $18,732.34.  Grandparent’s day is September 18 & 19th.  Meet and greet is also coming up.

Library got some improvements over the summer to make it more kid-friendly.  Also 1st floor has been repainted and the carpet in the area before LGA got removed.  Hopefully next year the downstairs will get a face lift.

Next, Mr. Shirvinski had something very hard to say which was that he is leaving the district for a new position at Cumberland Valley.  His position starts there September 30th.  After 17years with our district, he said he has been a big decision.  He thanked everyone for their support over the last 8 years.  He mentioned that a letter would be coming home shortly.

Mr. Shirvinski next talked about the new process with kindergarten orientation.  Mr. Shirvinski said he felt it is good but could be better.  Some of the changes included a parent orientation without the students and then one with students.  They also cut out the bus ride that is usually included.  And this year the first day of school only half the kindergarten attend then the 2nd day the second half then on the 3rd day everyone attended.  Mr.  Shirvinski asked for some feedback.  Jen Dunkleberger liked the orientation and classroom separation but she was concerned with those that would have to take time out of their workday to attend.  She was disappointed with there being no bus ride. And she also mentioned how she could see that the split day for starting could be an inconvenience for some parents.   Some parents mentioned that they were unaware of the changes but Mr. Shirvinski said a “save the date” was given ahead of time.  Michele Williams also gave some input.  She thought the parents only was a good idea and worked well.  But that this is her only school aged child.  She also mentioned that her child had come to the school with her preschool but there was an issue with transportation. And that the start day could be confusing.  Mr. Shirvinski mentioned that it was good feedback.  And that our District is all for the kids and what is best for the child.  He also mentioned that we have one of the best kindergarten teams.

1) Review of Budget

c. Box Tops were discussed as a new contest will start this year with more information to come home soon.

d. 13,732.34 is the current total of Pennies Committee.  Mr. Shirvinski is giving $5,000 from activates fund. The total they are working toward is $28,000.  Sherry also gave some totals from fundraising was $363 from Ralpho, and that sat there is a bake sale in Danville from 9-5 at the learning center.  She also Thanked Mr. Deeter for his help with the dunk tank at the All homes day event.  Their first meeting will be Monday at 6:30. Some ideas for this year are Brewsers night, Bus trip and bake sales.
