Our HART Meetings will be moving back to Tuesdays as of January 2011. Cindy Hricenak will be taking over the President position and Heidi Andreatti will be filling in the Vice President position as of January 2011. An enormous thank you to Karen Wojtowicz for all her hard work and dedication to HART in her positions as Vice President and President! Karen has said she will be still helping us behind the scenes whenever possible. We are extremely grateful for all she has done for HART!!!

Please continue to send in your box tops and labels for education and mark them with your child's homeroom teacher's name.

We will be having guest speakers at future HART meetings. Leslie Brecht will be talking about Bullying at our January or February meeting. Someone from the Ralpho Police Dept. will be talking about " How To Talk To Your Child About Drugs" at an upcoming meeting.


We hope to see everyone at our next meeting on January 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the Elementary Library.

H.A.R.T. MINUTES-DECEMBER 2010

President, Karen Wojtowicz, brought the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m.. Those in attendance shared recipes and conversation, in addition to cookies and hot drinks, prior to the meeting.

In attendance were: Officers-President Karen Wojtowicz, Treasurer Linda Hoy, Vice President Cindy Hricenak, Secretary Suzanne Kuijpers, Advisor Mr. Shirvinski and Teacher Rep. Bob Horne. Parents: Michelle Conway, Georgiann Noll, Roxanne Zuber, Vanessa Stine, Tom Levan, Marsylvia Weaver, Cheryl Roadarmel, Heidi Andreatti, Jen Dunkelberger, Renea Leiby.

Karen Wojtowicz reminded those in attendance that Cindy Hricenak will be taking over the position of President as of January 2011 when she steps down. It was a unanimous decision to nominate Heidi Andreatti for the Vice President position. She accepted and will assume the position as of January 2011.

Linda Hoy gave the Treasurer's report. The ending balance currently is $16,049.58. This reflects the profit from the Yankee Candle Fundraiser. The class funds are as follows:

Kindergarten:$100.00
1st Grade: $1,639.05
2nd Grade: $1,366.74
3rd Grade: $1,501.71
4th Grade: $2,069.85

The Treasurer's Report was approved with a motion from Heidi Andreatti and a second from Michelle Conway.

Suzanne Kuijpers gave the Secretary's Report which consisted of a review of the November Minutes. The minutes were approved by a motion from Marsylvia Weaver and a second from Georgiann Noll.

Mr. Shirvinski gave the Principal's Report. He reminded everyone about Pajama Day which was on December 9th. The students may bring slippers but should wear shoes. He asked for volunteers to distribute cookies and milk. Volunteers would be needed from 8:30-11:00.
He also spoke of R.I.F. Day which was on Dec.10 and was organized by Renelle Wetzel.
March 2 is Read Across America Day and Mr. Shirvinski has organized an assembly which will feature Kathy M. Miller who is an author of a children's book Chippy Chipmunk. March 3 will be the next R.I.F. Day in which all students K-4 receive a free book.
On November 16th, The Box of Light Assembly took place , which was done by Rand Whipple.The assembly was a big hit with the children.
Mr. Shirvinski talked about assemblies that will take place in Feb. 2011. Kindergarten will have one based on Aesop's Fables. 3rd Grade will have one based on Fractured Stories. 4th Grade will have an assembly with the theme of Electricity.
Report cards were distributed on Nov. 17 and are now computer generated.
Mr. Shirvinski also discussed another policy meeting at the high school which will take place on Jan.10 regarding requirements of chaperones and volunteers coming into contact with students. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. and will be attended by Mr. Shirvinski and Suzanne Kuijpers. Jen Dunkelberger passed along some information about securing a system that would require people entering the school building to swipe their driver's license. This would not include checking a person for child abuse charges.
April 8,2011 will be Reading Night with a theme of " Camp Out For Reading ". This event is going to include snacks , activities and games based on fun with reading. H.S. students may be available to act out a story. We will be planning this event after the holidays and will be looking for volunteers for a committee. Dane'e Ryter McCoog will be assisting with this event.

Karen Wojtowicz discussed both old and new business. She reported to everyone that the Muffins With Mom event was well attended and was a great success.Thank you to Georgiann Noll and Roxanne Zuber for chairing this event. A donation was made to the Children's Miracle Network in the amount of $347.40 which was collected at the event.
It was discussed that the anticipated delivery of Yankee Candles will be the week of Dec. 13 and that the profit from that fundraiser was $14,477.64.
The Fall Book Fair was a success and a thank you goes out to Dane'e Ryter McCoog for chairing that event. A huge thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with all these events because they could not take place without you!!!!!!!
The new business consisted of a reminder that the Holiday Gift Cards deadline was Dec. 3 and the delivery would be Dec.17. They went home with the kids unless otherwise specified.
Feb.26th will be our Donuts With Dad event-Amy Snyder assisting with this . More info will be coming at future meetings.
Teacher Appreciation will be in May 2011 and will be organized by Cindy Hricenak with assistance from Suzanne Kuijpers.
R.O.A.R. tee shirts were given to Kindergarten students and Mr. Shirvinski has additional shirts which can be purchased for $7.00.
Mr. Shirvinski requested a check for $372.50 to Mobile Ed. for the Sky Dome Assembly. This was approved with a motion by Roxanne Zuber and a second from Vanessa Stine.
Everyone was reminded that the H.A.R.T. meetings will be returning to Tuesdays as of Jan.2011. Thank you to everyone who came out to our Cookie Exchange December Meeting! We hope to see you all at our next meeting which will be January 4, 2011!
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 with a motion by Karen Wojtowicz and was approved by Georgiann Noll and a second from Michelle Conway.

REMINDER ABOUT H.A.R.T. MEETING

Don't forget that this Thursday, December 2,2010, is our December H.A.R.T. meeting. Get into the spirit of the holidays with a cookie exchange and some hot drinks along with some social time!! Bring 1-2 dozen cookies along with your recipe to share with others and a bag to take home the cookies. We would love to see a great turn out for this fun meeting !
The meeting is at 6:30 in the elementary library as usual. Hope to see you all there!

Our last HART meeting was held on November 4,2010. The meeting was once again well attended and we thank everyone who has been coming out to them. We are having a Holiday Cookie Exchange at our next meeting on December 2 at 6:30. We hope you can join us for this fun event ! If you are interested in participating, please bring 1-2 dozen homemade cookies along with 15 or 20 copies of your recipe.Prior to the start of our regular meeting we will enjoy some social time along with some yummy cookies!!

Our Fall Fundraiser of Yankee Candles was very successful and we would like to thank everyone who participated and made donations to HART.. Thank you to Allison Clark who organized the fundraiser for all her hard work!

Another thank you goes to Sue Griscavage who organized the Hartman Harvest Festival. The festival was a fun day for all! Thanks to all those who came to volunteer that day! The donations to the local food pantries were well appreciated.

Our Fall Book Fair was held in a new location in the large group area. The fair was held November 1-5, and also had a Grand Event on November 6 where the kids could come and shop with someone special in their lives and enjoy some milk and cookies. Thanks to Dane'e Ryter McCoog for all her hard work organizing the fair and also thanks to those who volunteered to work at it.


Our Scrip Card Program is underway again for the second year. Letters and order forms were sent home with the students and are due back on Dec. 1. This is a great way to get your holiday gift cards without the hassle and start working on your holiday shopping. If you choose to participate in this program, the orders and payment are due on Dec. 1. Please make your check payable to HART and do not send cash. The gift cards will be sent home with your child on December 17.

The officers of HART would like to wish everyone a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!

H.A.R.T. MINUTES-NOVEMBER 2010

President, Karen Wojtowicz, brought the meeting to order at 6:34 p.m. on November 4,2010.

In attendance were: Officers- President Karen Wojtowicz, Treasurer Linda Hoy, Secretary Suzanne Kuijpers, Advisor Mr. Shirvinski, Teacher Rep. Diane Wittig Musser. Parents: Jen Dunkelberger, Allison Clark, Diane Mack, Brenda Brassington, Michelle Conway, Dawn Knoebel, Lisa Shufeldt, Roxanne Zuber, Georgiann Noll, Dana Carroll-Lucas, Kim Levan, Susan Griscavage, Regina Longenhagen, Cheryl Roadarmel, Dawna Knoebel, Janel Yankoskie, Lynn Madden, Marsylvia Weaver, Heidi Andreatti, and Amy Snyder.

Karen Wojtowicz gave the Vice President's Report in Cindy's absence. She thanked all the volunteers and homeroom parents for all the work on the Harvest Festival and classroom parties. The day was a great success and the kids had a great time.

Linda Hoy gave the Treasurer's Report. The ending balance as of 10-31-10 was $2472.59. The class funds are as follows:
Kindergarten: $100.00
1st Grade: $1614.05
2nd Grade:$ 866.74
3rd Grade:$1501.71
4th Grade:$2069.85

The Treasurer's Report was approved by a motion from Allison Clark and a second by Michelle Conway.

Suzanne Kuijpers asked for a review of the October Minutes which were approved by a motion from Dana Carroll-Lucas and a second from Jen Dunkelberger. This concluded the Secretary's Report.

Mr. Shirvinski gave the Principal's Report. He addressed complaints that were received by the office regarding the fall pictures. Lifetouch reported receiving complaints from parents who did not like their children's pictures because their hair was not combed. Mr. Shirvinski noted that he said not to comb hair because in the past there were complaints that hair was restyled and parted on the wrong side by volunteers. November 19 is Picture retake day for anyone not happy with their pictures.
Mr. Shirvinski said that report cards will go home on November 17. The elementary school has been undergoing changes so that report cards will now be computer generated.
The Turkey Bowl is underway. Mr. Shirvinski pulls classes out of a hat each day and they advance a certain number of yards. The winner will get an extra recess!!
Mr. Shirvinski also noted that Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on November 22 and 23. There is no school from 11-22 to 11-29.

Karen Wojtowicz discussed both old and new business. She gave a thank you to Sue Griscavage who organized the Harvest Festival. Karen said the event was a big success and also thanked those who helped in any way that day. Sue G. commented that the committee worked well together and that the games were a big hit (except when the wind was involved). The kids enjoyed the sand art project as well. Sue G. gave a big thank you to Dave Morgan who donated his time as well as a giant wooden pumpkin bean bag toss game!! A thank you also to Tom's Rest. for donating coffee to volunteeers and Knoebel's for ping pong balls. Beth Nevus did a great job photographing the event!
Allison Clark, Fundraising Chair Person, gave an overview of the Yankee Candle Fundraiser. She said that it was very successful and raised $34,511.98 with a 40% profit of $13,804.79. There were several people who made donations in lieu of doing the fundraiser , which boosted the profit to $14,354.79. She gave a huge thank you to all those who participated in this fundraiser and those who made the generous donations. Our top seller was Denny Stine (Kindergarten) who sold $463.22. Great job!!
The Book Fair took place November 1-5 in a new location. The Book Fair is now being held in the large group area with Dane'e Ryter McCoog as the Chairperson.
The new business for the meeting was a discussion of the upcoming Muffins With Mom event to be held on Nov.13 from 10:00 -11:30. Georgiann Noll is the chairperson for this event and has planned a craft which will involve bracelets with a fall theme. She is getting muffins from Rita's Bakery and milk from the cafeteria for the event. Participants can make monetary donations to Children's Miracle Network at the event.
There was a discussion of Reading Night which will possibly be held on April 8,2011 to coincide with the Spring Book Fair. More details will be upcoming at future meetings.
Donuts With Dad will be held on Feb. 26,2011 and HART is still looking for a chairperson for this event.
The Holiday Gift Card Fundraiser will be taking place again as a service to parents with a small profit for HART. The list will be sent home on Nov.10th and is due back on Dec. 1 with the payment.Payment needs to be in the form of a check made payable to HART. The gift cards will be sent home with your child on Dec.17th.
Allison Clark gave info about a SMART fundraiser taking place on December 4 in the high school cafeteria. Cookies and Milk With Santa will be from 2-4 that day and a $5.00 fee will get you a picture with Santa.

Mr. Shirvinski asked for a motion to approve a $375.00 payment to Box Of Light for an upcoming assembly. It was approved with a motion by Diane Mack and a second from Heidi Andreatti.

Karen Wojtowicz made an announcement that she will be stepping down as H.A.R.T. President due to other obligations. Vice President , Cindy Hricenak, will take over the position. Karen said that she will continue to help from behind the scenes as much as possible.

December 2 will be our next meeting and a Cookie Exchange will take place at the meeting. Bring 2 dozen homemade cookies and 15-20 copies of the recipe along with you. Bring a few baggies along to tote home your cookies!
Please note that if school is canceled because of inclement weather on the day of a HART meeting, the meeting will be canceled as well.
We continue to have great turnout for the HART meetings and we are so grateful to everyone who has been coming to them!!!!!!

Karen made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m. . The motion was approved by Diane Mack and a second from Jen Dunkelberger.

Reminder about Harvest Festival: We will be collecting non-perishable food items that day to donate to local food pantries. Please check your food items to be sure they are not EXPIRED.

Our second H.A.R.T. meeting was held on October 7, 2010 and was well attended. Thanks to everyone who is coming out to these meetings. Our next meeting will be on Thursday, November 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the elementary library. We hope to see everyone then!

H.A.R.T. MINUTES
October, 2010



President, Karen Wojtowicz , brought the meeting to order at 6:38 p.m. on October 7, 2010.

In attendance were: Officers- President Karen Wojtowicz, Vice President Cindy Hricenak, Treasurer Linda Hoy, Secretary Suzanne Kuijpers, Advisor Mr. Shirvinski. Cindy Hricenak gave the Vice President's report in which she said that the homeroom parent selection would take place at the end of the meeting.

Linda Hoy gave the Treasurer's report. She thanked everyone who sent in donations to H.A.R.T. She made a correction to the ending balance for 8-31-10 which should be $2496.22 not $2359.62 as previously stated in the September Report. The ending balance as of 9-30-10 is $3894.22

The Treasurer's Report was approved by a motion from Sue Griscavage and a second from Jen Dunkelberger.

Suzanne Kuijpers gave the Secretary's Report in which there was some discussion of a policy meeting attended by Suzanne and Mr. Shirvinski. The policy mtg. was held on October 5 in the high school library. The meeting was with members of the school board to discuss possible upcoming requirements for chaperones of field trips. There has not been any decisions made regarding the requirement of clearances for such chaperone volunteers ,however, there will be future discussions to iron out the details . Such changes may take as long as next school year until the policy is written and implemented.
The minutes from the September meeting were approved by a motion from Sherry Humphrey and a second from Allison Clark.

Mr. Shirvinski gave the Principal's Report. He thanked those who have a Target card and have G.C. Hartman designated on the rewards program. He recently received a check for $83.53 from Target.
He also discussed future assemblies for the students. For K-3 there will be a Sky Dome which is a blow up planetarium in which the kids will be able to go inside. This will be in January, 2011.
The "Box of Light " will be doing an assembly for 4th grade which will focus on the water cycle and electricity. 1st and 2nd grade will have one based on Solids, Liquids and Gas. These will reinforce things they are learning in science class.Mr. Shirvinski also spoke about a reading night which will take place on Jan. 21, 2011 and it will have a "Camp Out " theme.

Karen Wojtowicz reviewed both old and new business. She said that H.A.R.T. is looking for someone to be the chairperson for Reading Night. She will be looking into the possibility of a Professor at Bloom. Univ.having a class help us plan for this event. Karen distributed G.C. Hartman lanyards to those who were Hartman Helpers last year. She thanked Dawna Knoebel who organized volunteers for Grandparent's Day. Mr. Shirvinski said Grandparents Day was a big hit and was well attended. Karen went over the HART Bylaw Amendments which were discussed at last month's meeting . All those in attendance of this October mtg. were in favor of a motion to approve the changes by a show of hands. Karen made the motion to approve and a second was made by Mr. Shirvinski.

Mr. Shirvinski talked about the Hartman Helpers Volunteer Program which will have an orientation meeting on October 11 at 6:30 p.m. Letters with volunteer assignments will be sent out.
He also said that there is a Preschool Screening on October 20th for 3 and 4 year olds. You can call the District Office for more info or to register.

Mr. Shirvinski made a motion to request $375.00 for a deposit for the Box of Light Assembly and $372.50 for the Mobile Ed. Productions Company assembly. The motion was approved by
Michelle Conway and a second from Diane Mack.

Allison Clark, Fundraiser Chairperson, spoke about the Fall fundraiser which will be Yankee Candle. We will make a 40% profit from this and the info will be sent home with students on October 12. Orders must be in by Oct. 27th with a guaranteed delivery for Christmas. She will be looking for volunteers to sort and distribute the product on the day it comes in.

Sue Griscavage, Hartman Harvest Chairperson, said that things are in place for this event. Games will be based on the minute to win it game show.The festival will take place on Oct. 28.

Karen Wojtowicz said that we are in need of a chairperson for both Muffins With Mom and Donuts With Dad. Sign up sheets will be available following the meeting.
She also said that we will be having Mrs. Brecht as a guest speaker at a HART mtg. to discuss Bullying. We will be having a Cookie Exchange at the December 4 HART meeting as well.

Mr. Shirvinski said that report cards will be coming out around Nov. 17th and that an electronic system is being implemented. Elementary students will not be able to access grades on the parent portal this year.
He also thanked HART for providing the breakfast and lunch for the firemen ,etc. on Fire Safety Day.He thanked the parent volunteers who came in that day as well. The children enjoy that day greatly.

Request for plastic grocery bags

The Fall Book Fair will be held November 1-5. Dane'e Ryter McCoog is requesting grocery bags to be used during the book fair. If you have any bags , please bring them to the next H.A.R.T. meeting which will be held on October 7 at 6:30 in the Elementary school library.

Our annual Hartman Harvest Festival will be held on October 28,2010. There has already been a planning meeting for this event and another one is scheduled for Oct. 7 at 6:00 with the regular H.A.R.T. meeting to follow. We hope to see you all then!!!

H.A.R.T. Minutes September 2010

President Karen Wojtowicz brought the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.

Cindy Hricenak gave the Vice President's report and spoke about H.A.R.T. volunteers and the clearances they will need. She also spoke about Homeroom parents.

Linda Hoy , gave the Treasurer's report. The report was approved by a motion from Sherri Humphrey and a second from Sue Griscavage.

There was also a review of the 2010-2011 budget which was approved with a motion from Regina Longenhagen and a second from Steph Mayernick.

The minutes from the May meeting were approved by a motion from Kim Levan and a second from Mary Knoebel.

Mr. Shirvinski gave the Principal's report. He thanked everyone for sending in box tops etc. and said that it really adds up. He received a check for $1347.98 from Giant rewards which he uses through the year for activities for the students. He thanked Mary Knoebel for helping with the A Plus rewards program.

The Book Fair will be held 11-1 to 11-5 and will now be in the large group area.

4th grade students doing "Your Extra Steps " program in conjunction with Geisinger and Col. Cty. commissioners. They will be wearing pedometers to track their steps and focus on healthy life style.

Meet and Greet Night will be on Thursday and parents will have opportunity to meet the teachers and learn class expectations. There will also be a dedication of the stained glass window in library in memory of teachers who have passed away.

Grandparents Day will be Sept. 28 an 29. Students will be bringing home papers with more info..H.A.R.T. will be looking for volunteers to assist those days with handing out visitor stickers and serving coffee and cookies.

Sign up sheets were available after the H.A.R.T. mtg. for volunteers for various activities.

It was also discussed that Knoebel"s Day was a success and cost $7312.50. The Back To School BBQ also was successful. Thank you to Mrs. Brown for the Scavenger hunt which the children enjoyed.The Raffle basket was won by Joe Bucanelli. Karen Wojtowicz explained lessons learned from that event, and that next yr. we may want to have a cooler for the ice cream and possibly eliminate soda and have lemonade. We also learned we only needed one grill.

Karen Wojtowicz reviewed proposed changes to the H.A.R.T. Bylaws :
Homeroom parents rule : may hold position 2 consecutive years and only more if there are no volunteers for the position. It was discussed that there should possibly be an alternate pick, in the event that the homeroom parent cannot fulfill their duties. It was also discussed that a person could be homeroom parent for more than one child. We discussed the importance of this position and that it should be taken seriously and the volunteer should be made aware of their duties and be aware that they could be removed from the position if the teacher indicates that they are not making the necessary phone calls,etc.

It was discussed that the need for a nominating committee is not present and could be removed from Section 2 of the bylaws.

The wording for H.A.R.T. positions would remain as is in the current bylaws.

It was discussed that the newsletter and minutes are no longer sent home but can be found on the H.A.R.T. website.

No need for Member At Large position and can be removed from bylaws.

Executive Committees: eliminate Logo Wear position. Also Chairpersons for events such as Harvest festival, etc. not required to attend officer mtgs.

Meeting Date Changes: change from 1st Tuesday to 1st Thursday of month at same time. No objections to this change were presented at the meeting.Letter will be sent home letting people know about this change.

We will vote on approved changes at next meeting which will be held on Thurs. October 7,2010

Steph Mayernick talked about labels now being on Bic Stationary Products and Pop Secret. They are doubling points on labels submitted by 12-31-10.

Karen Wojtowicz expressed interest in having people volunteer to chair different H.A.R.T. events: Allison Clark volunteered to be Fundraiser Chair Person and Sue Griscavage volunteered to be Chair Person for harvest festival. Danee Ryter McCoog will be Book Fair chair; Renelle Wetzel will be handling RIF; Steph Mayernick will be taking care of Campbell's Labels and Tyson; Dawna Knoebel will be handling A.R. program; Sue Griscavage will be managing Box Tops. We are looking for volunteers to photograph each of our H.A.R.T. events.

Mr. Shirvinski spoke about Picture Day which will be Oct. 12. We will also be doing Spring Pictures as well, which provide additional background choices and are sent home to preview before you buy them. Both Fall and Spring picture purchases are optional. The children need to be photographed for purpose of their permanent records,however, you do not need to purchase the pictures. Sign up sheet for volunteers for Picture Day was available.

Karen thanked everyone for coming out to the first meeting and encouraged people to share their ideas for possible guest speakers and activities for future meetings.The next H.A.R.T. meeting will be October 7,2010.

The Hartman Helping Hands volunteer appreciation luncheon will be held on May 17 for those who participated. Over 700 hours were logged.

The winning homeroom in the Box Tops/Campbell’s labels contest was Mrs. Gratti with 3,457 labels followed by Mrs. Hower with 1,774 labels, and Miss Varano with 1,732 labels collected.

All Campbell’s labels submitted until May 14 will be doubled.

HART collected $355 and a huge amount of items for the Animal Resource Center from our donuts w/dad event. Thank you to everyone who participated.

The Back to School BBQ will be held on August 19 from 4-6 p.m. Contact Karen Wojtowicz if you are interested in volunteering.

May 2010 Meeting Minutes

Vice-President Karen Wojtowicz brought the meeting to order at 6:40 p.m.

In attendance were: Officers: Vice-President-Karen Wojtowicz, Secretary-Stephanie Mayernick, Treasurer-Regina Longenhagen, Advisor-Mr. Shirvinski, Teacher Rep.-Tia Brown and Parents: Diane Mack, Kim Levan, Linda Hoy, Dawn Knoebel, Sue Kuijpers, Sherry Humphrey, Tammy Hodder, Terry Wommer, Cheryl Roadarmel, and Michelle Conway. President Laurie Morris was absent.

April’s minutes were approved by a motion from Sherry Humphrey and a second from Michelle Conway.

Regina Longenhagen, H.A.R.T.’s treasurer, gave the treasurers report for April. The treasurer’s report was approved by a motion from Dawn Knoebel and a second from Diane Mack.

Teacher appreciation day is Wednesday, May 5. Food should be dropped off in the office by 10:30 a.m. Clean up will need to be done by 2:00 p.m. Dishes may be picked up in the office.

Muffins with mom will be held on Monday, May 10 from 6-7 p.m. There are 406 responses so far. Mr. Shirvinski will order milk and we will also have water available. Moms and children will be given a clay flower pot to decorate with paint and a pack of flower seeds. 200 pots were purchased for $.69 each. Brushes from the art room will be used. Tammy Hodder volunteered to donate paint.

Mr. Shirvinski received a check for $1,512.44 from Box Tops. He uses some of the money to pay for milk for events, student t-shirts, and PSSA breakfasts. Some playground equipment will need to be replaced in the next few years.

May’s principal newsletter will be sent home to all students. It contains information regarding due dates for school materials to be returned. All lunch accounts need to be paid. Any obligations not paid for will be turned over to the district magistrate. Money left in lunch accounts will be carried over to the next school year.

Beach day will be May 12. Tank tops and flip flops are permitted. No swim suits.

The Hartman Helping Hands volunteer luncheon will be held on May 17 from 12:15-1:30 p.m. Over 700 hours were logged. Certificates will be presented.

The final day for kindergarten registration will be May 19.

Mrs. Brown will be holding an Art Showcase on May 19 from 9-8 p.m. Student art work will be on display.

Movin’ On Up Day for K-3 students will be held on May 27. Parents will receive a letter on May 26 stating next year’s teacher. Students will spend an hour with their new teacher. Parents will have a chance to meet the teacher at the Meet and Greet Night in September.

Relay for Life penny walk will be held on May 22. The grand prize is a two hour party at the Bounceplex.

Thank you letters were presented from the American Red Cross for our donation for Haiti and from the Columbia Montour Home Hospice for our donation to Camp Courage.

No school on May 31 and June 1.

There is a Pre-K Summer Fundamentals program this summer for students entering kindergarten in the fall. It runs from June 28-July 29 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. The K-4 program will not be held this summer.

The district building project is moving forward.

June 2nd is Knoebels Day with no rain date. There is a price increase this year and will cost approximately $300 more than last year. The cafeteria will not be serving lunch at the park this year. Students wishing to each school lunch can pre-order a bagged lunch to eat at the park. We will be at Pavillion F. Information will be sent home on May 5 or 6.

The back to school bbq will be held on August 19 from 4-6 p.m. Mrs. Brown had a suggestion to have a treasure/scavenger hunt. Anyone interested in volunteering for this event should contact Karen Wojtowicz.

Sherry Humphrey presented information about a possible fall fundraiser. Jack Link’s beef sticks cost $.50 and sell for $1, giving a 50% profit. Another idea was a race for education walk to be held in the fall. Students would get pledges/sponsors for walking laps on the track. HART officers will meet in July to organize possible fundraiser details and voting will take place in September.

Kindergarten orientation will be held on August 23 and the first day of school is August 26.

The next HART meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the elementary library.

There was an idea presented that students that don’t participate in a fundraiser should be required to donate a set amount of money such as $5.00 or the donation could be made optional. Another suggestion was to send home a list of scheduled school fundraisers so that parents are aware of when they will be held. The list could be included in the beginning of the year HART informational packet and/or inform new parents at kindergarten orientation.

First and third grade use charter buses for field trips. Fourth grade makes a donation to R.B. Winter State Park.

April is volunteer month. Thank you to all of the HART volunteers.

$4,369.98 was collected for Pennies for Patients. Mrs. Springer’s class collected the most at $421.54 and won a pizza party. Mr. Venna’s class came in second and Mrs. Gratti’s class was third. Thank you to Knoebels for helping to count the money. This is the last year for this. Next year students will participate in the St. Jude’s Math-a-thon.

All Campbell’s labels submitted until May 14 will be doubled.

Wednesday, April 7 is spring picture day. Mr. Shirvinski received letters from two parents that were unhappy with the spring pictures. The school makes money from the pictures purchased that is put into the activities fund. Every student is photographed in the fall. Parents can purchase the spring pictures if they like them or return them to the school.

PSSA testing for grades 3 and 4 in reading and math will be held April 12-16. Fourth grade will have science testing April 28-29. Mr. Shirvinski will provide students with a bag breakfast and a pen. They will have a prep pep rally and an end of testing celebration dance on Friday, April 16.

Parent input letters for next year’s homeroom are due by April 15. No phone calls or emails will be accepted.

The Coke rewards program for this school year ends on May 15. Codes have to be entered by then.

Donuts with dad will be held on Saturday, April 10 from 10-11 a.m. There are 474 people attending so far.

April 20 is Superhero Day.

Family/Community Night will be held on Monday, April 26 from 6:30-8 p.m. K-4 science projects will be displayed. Kindergarten’s displays will be in the area by kindergarten and grades 1-4 displays will be in the gym. Classrooms will be closed. The book fair will be open. Any community organization that wishes to set up a table needs to fill out a facilities use form.

Teacher appreciation day is Wednesday, May 5. Requests for food donations will be sent home soon. A suggestion for a teacher gift was to surprise them with muffins and scones for breakfast. The suggestion was made to purchase them from Muffin Man. Tammy Hodder volunteered to call around for prices for them and for muffins with mom.

March 2010 Meeting Minutes

President Laurie Morris brought the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m.

In attendance were: Officers: President-Laurie Morris, Secretary-Stephanie Mayernick, Treasurer-Regina Longenhagen, Advisor-Mr. Shirvinski, Teacher Rep.-Michele Petro and Parents: Diane Wolfgang, Diane Mack, Kim Levan, Linda Hoy, Michelle Conway, Dawn Knoebel, Sue Kuijpers, Gloria Seroskie, and Sherry Humphrey.

February’s minutes were approved by a motion from Michelle Conway and a second from Kim Levan.

Regina Longenhagen, H.A.R.T.’s treasurer, gave the treasurers report for February. The treasurer’s report was approved by a motion from Michelle Conway and a second from Kim Levan.
The class funds are as follows:
Kindergarten $90.02 1st grade $1,097.99 2nd grade $503.85
3rd grade $2,765.63 4th grade $614.54

The top three sellers for the spring fundraiser are:
Megan Straub - $885.00
Cordell Helwig - $858.50
Haley Knoebel - $688.00

The top seller for each grade are:
Kdgn – Gauge Wommer - $610.00
1st – Eva McClelland - $544.00
2nd – Ayzah Quinn - $600.50
3rd – Gabrielle Farr - $540.00
4th – Paige Sharrow - $556.50

We received 40% of the Uncle Jerry’s sales as profit and expect to receive 45% profit from Gertrude Hawk.

Wednesday, April 7 is spring picture day. Volunteers are needed to help from 8:00-12:15 p.m. Contact Laurie Morris if you’re interested.

Tuesday, March 16 is Pre-K night. Mr. Shirvinski will discuss ways to reinforce basic concepts, naming words, sounds, and environmental print. High school students will provide babysitting services. Volunteers are needed to supervise those students from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Contact Laurie Morris if you are interested.

The gym show will be held on March 29 for grades 1 & 4.

The March principal’s newsletter is being sent home with each student. You may submit recommendations for next year’s classroom assignments and are due by April 15. No emails or phone calls will be accepted. Movin On Up Day will be held in May and students will have a chance to meet their new teacher and class.

March 31 and April 1 will be make-up snow days. There will be no school on April 2 and 5. A letter will be sent home regarding changes to the school calendar.

Kindergarten registration will be held March 22-26. Pennies for Patients ended on March 2. Knoebels will be counting the money for the school. Movie night was held on February 19 and raised $481.51 to be donated to the American Red Cross for Haiti.

Read Across America was March 2. Students had a RIF assembly on March 1 which the students enjoyed and received a free RIF book on March 2. The assembly cost $625 for two sessions. Classes are also participating in a door decorating contest for prizes. Students received a cupcake with their lunch on Monday. Mr. Shirvinski is looking for any new ideas for future RIF days. He is looking into the Planetarium for next year.

A reminder that the Act 34 meeting will be held on March 3 at 7 p.m. Please call Tresa Britch if you would like to be put on the agenda to speak. The time limit for speaking is 5 minutes. Mrs. Dawn Knoebel toured the elementary building.

The Title 1 teachers will be hosting a first grade reading program meeting on March 16 at 9 a.m. They will be going over the expectations for first grade reading. Title 1 testing for kindergarten will be held in April. There will be three assessments given-developmental reading assessment, reading comprehension, and writing. Scoring two out of three at basic or below will qualify for Title 1.

Family Fun Night is March 13 from 6-8 p.m. There will be a DJ in the gym and bingo in the large group area. There will be paper and crayons available for children to color. Prepackaged snacks will be available for sale. Any leftover snacks may be sold at Community Night. Optional monetary donations to Camp Courage will be accepted.

Mrs. Rhodes presented HART with thank you cards from her class for the Hartman Harvest Festival and pumpkin contest. They were the first grade pumpkin contest winner.

Donuts with dad will be held on Saturday, April 10 from 10-11 a.m. Home Depot has not returned any of Laurie’s calls. Tom Levan will contact Lowes for craft kits. Family/Community Night will be held on Monday, April 26 from 6:30-8 p.m. Muffins with mom will be held on Monday, May 10 from 6-7 p.m. More details will be discussed at the next HART meeting. Teacher appreciation day will be held on May 5.

January’s minutes were approved by a motion from Sue Griscavage and a second from Bridget Carl.

Regina Longenhagen asked for volunteers for fundraiser distribution on March 18.

Read Across America day is March 1. There will be an assembly entitled Weird, Wild and Wonderful, about different ways to tell a story. RIF book distribution will be March 2. Mr. Shirvinski is looking for other RIF day ideas besides pajama day.

Pennies for Patients collection has started. This will benefit the Lymphoma Society. Last year we collected over $2,000.

Kindergarten registration will begin on March 22. Parents may call for appts. starting on March 1. Mr. Shirvinski will be sending home a March newsletter containing information about kindergarten registration and homeroom placements for next school year.

A stained glass window was completed in the library in memory of Terry Stellfox who passed away from cancer. He was a third grade teacher.

February 10 – Mismatch Day

During the month of February students in grades 3-6 may buy snacks during lunch if they have money in their account. Snacks must be eaten in the cafeteria. Water is extra. Lunch money rolls over from year to year. The blue slushies are 100% juice. Mr. Shirvinski will mention to his lunch bunch about recycling the water bottles.

Mr. Shirvinski spoke to Jayme Toczylousky about what outside organizations need donations. She mentioned Camp Courage. It is for children who have lost parents and is fully funded by donations. It is held at Camp Victory in Millville.

Movie night is February 19 at 6 p.m. The movie Up will be shown in the gym. Each attendee will receive a bottle of water and popcorn. Optional donations for the Red Cross are being accepted.

Please fill out the bottom portion of the Gertrude Hawk order form with the student’s name and tally each column. This portion is sent directly to the company. Also turn in the student’s prize form.

December’s minutes were approved by a motion from Sherry Humphrey and a second from Karen Wojtowicz.

Stephanie Mayernick, H.A.R.T.’s secretary, gave the treasurers report for December. The treasurer’s report was approved by a motion from Michelle Conway and a second from Andrea Bzdak. The class funds are as follows:

We have 142 Sheetz coupons left. Contact Regina Longenhagen if you are interested in purchasing any. Teachers thought it was a great idea and wanted to know if we would be doing it again next year.

Our scrips profit was $1,496.87, selling 1,056 cards.

Spring fundraiser kickoff assembly is January 20. We are selling Gertrude Hawk candy and Uncle Jerry’s T’s.

Sue Griscavage will be taking over Box Tops, Renelle Wetzel will be taking over RIF and Stephanie Mayernick will be taking over Campbell’s labels next year.

Movie Night is Friday, February 19 at 6:00 p.m. The tentative movie will be Up. Entry fee will be a NON EXPIRED non-perishable food donation. HART will supply popcorn and bottled water.

Donuts with dad will be held on Saturday, April 10 from 10-11 a.m. Laurie is waiting to hear back from Home Depot if they have enough kits to offer. One kit is being offered per family. Mr. Shirvinski would like to know the cost to purchase more kits so that each student can make something, instead of one kit per family. Are there any other suggestions if Home Depot does not have enough kits available? What will families donate this year at this event? Mr. Shirvinski will ask Jayme Toczylousky, Angel Network co-coordinator, what items are in need. In the past we have donated to the Angel Network and food pantries. Another possible organization is AGAPE. HART will supply donuts, milk and bottled water.

Family Fun Night is Saturday, March 13 from 6-8 p.m. There will be a DJ, bingo, and other activities. HART will also be selling snacks and bottled water.

Pennies for Patients assembly is January 27. This benefits the Lymphoma Society. It will run for 3 weeks and the classroom that collects the most money will receive something. Pennies are preferable but any denomination will be accepted. Checks should be made payable to SCA. All money will be deposited into the school account and one check will be issued to the Lymphoma Society. Knoebels has offered to count and roll the coins.

Family and Community Night will be held on April 26 from 6:30-8. Classrooms will be closed. The book fair will be open and science projects will be displayed. HART will have a table set up for officer voting. Other community organizations will also have information and or registration tables set up.
